Things to do in Monaco and Monte-Carlo
Monaco is a separate, sovereign country, but you reach it from Nice like a suburb: the train from Nice-Ville takes about 20-25 minutes, and there is no border check since Monaco uses the euro and sits inside the Schengen area. It is not an EU member.
Monte-Carlo is only a district, built around the Casino, the Opera and the Hotel de Paris; the actual capital is Monaco-Ville, on the Rocher, with the Prince's Palace and the Oceanographic Museum. The changing of the guard outside the Palace happens around 11:55am.
There is no airport: visitors arrive via Nice, by train, bus, car or helicopter to the Fontvieille heliport. Expect prices to spike sharply around the Grand Prix, held in late May or early June.
